I'm using TurboTax to figure out our taxes. Everything was looking pretty good and like what I would expect for a two-income family with one dependent...until I entered in my book royalties (#2 on 1099-misc) and income from my freelance (#7 on that form.) It looks like we owe about 40% of what I made. Yikes.

Am I overlooking any deductions or special exceptions for people in the "artistic" fields? We aren't itemizing...I don't think my Fedex bills and receipts from Kinkos will add up to more than $9500.

Thanks in advance.
