Does this system at some point have to connect to some form of
DSL/Cable or does this connection remain totally wireless from tower to servers to website?

HDR does not use DSL or cable; it is a competitor to DSL and cable. HDR is wireless between the user and the tower. From the tower throught the internet to the Fool servers uses "wired" technology. For high bandwidth wired technology, fiber optical technology currently is the choice.
