Don't forget also the fact that the IRS and Congress severely restricts your ability to save for retirement if you are a contract employee unless you have the ability to create a SEP.
That's not my observation nor experience... Neither the IRS nor Congresss directly restrict a contractor's ability to save (for anything.) On a macro scale they *discourage* saving by those paying attention to real inflation, but not from 1099 vs W2 income sourcing.
