This would be funnier if Trump actually was your drunk uncle and not the president of the most powerful nation in the world.

Tuesday’s White House press briefing was one of the most disturbing moments of Donald Trump’s slide into madness and desperation. As I write this, hours later, I keep thinking, “What in the actual <expletive deleted> was that?”

Like an addled necromancer with the heavy charnel stench of a dead campaign on him, Trump spent over an hour chanting the old incantations from an eldritch grimoire (The Dark Booke of Bannon, perhaps) only to find that nothing was working. Even his most devoted followers were eyeing the exits and wondering when some apprentice would step forward to lead him off gently off the stage for a rest and a posset of unicorn blood.

Peter Baker wrote much the same in the New York Times, though perhaps a little less colorfully, noting that the president had called a press conference to announce new measures against China before it all went frighteningly off the rails:

What followed instead was an hour of presidential stream of consciousness as Mr. Trump drifted seemingly at random from one topic to another, often in the same run-on sentence. Even for a president who rarely sticks to the script and wanders from thought to thought, it was one of the most rambling performances of his presidency.

Watching that bizarre, rambling, tired, disconnected big bowl of Rose Garden crazy was frightening.
