Weber is franchising his stories. He is first author, but these books seem written mostly by Eric Flint.

Crown of Slaves - read this one first

And
Torch of Freedom - this is sequel to the other one.

These two novels tell a 'side story" to other of the Honor verse/ Honor Herrington series, from the point of view of other characters/heros. These stories further develop the characters of the Honor series, sort of like "fan fiction". These stories do NOT feature Honor Herrington. She plays a couple of bit parts, only.

Like D Weber, Flint is wordy, at 710 and 826 pages respectively, the novels are long. Torch of Freedom has an 11 (eleven!) page list of characters! So the reader can keep em straight.

I'm NOT a fan of books that are so complex that the editor requires a "map" to help navigate the story.

Weber and Flint are slower reads for me.

But, I did enjoy the stories, and having read the Honorverse books that alluded to these events,

I give them a 3.9 out of 5, and recommend them.
