The Xi Jinping government which controls all the news and information, claims that 3,270 people have died and 81,093 infected in China due to COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan city of Hubei province. However, several Chinese civilians have leaked out videos and documents disputing these numbers, with many pointing to the drop in cellphone users by 21 million in the last three months.

A Chinese blogger based in New York, Jennifer Zeng posted the official monthly data released on March 19, showing the number of cellphone users decreased from 1.600957 billion to 1.579927 billion in February 2020. Similarly, the number of landline users reduced from 190.83 million to 189.99 million, a drop of 840,000 last month.

The way China is suppressing information is almost as bad as the way Trump is doing it.

Could also be because business dried up, people lost their jobs and income and couldn't afford a cellphone any longer. Or businesses cut off cellphone lines to save money.

Not necessarily an indicator of anything other than reduced economic activity.

Car sales in China dropped 80%. Does that mean that 80% of the population died in the last 2 months?

Uncertainty sure increases during uncertain times.

Data is never quite as reliable as we would like it to be - and people can and do
prove whatever they wish using and abusing statistics.

Sometimes the data is OK - but the analysis is wrong.
Sometimes the analysis is OK - but the data is flawed.
Sometimes the people doing the experimentation just want to finish early and go home.

The one thing folks must do with scientific analysis of data is question the results.
Never accept results without questioning everything.
Then question you own assumptions.

Many studies fail because of the assumptions people who set up the study did not even
realize they were making.

"China concealed extent of outbreak, US intelligence says"

* Classified report to White House concludes that Beijing has under-reported both total cases and deaths from disease, officials say

* Western officials have also cited Iran, Russia, Indonesia and North Korea as countries that are probably undercounting

Bloomberg Published: 1:56am, 2 Apr, 2020 Updated: 2:18am, 2 Apr, 2020

China has concealed the extent of the coronavirus outbreak in its country, under-reporting both total cases and deaths it has suffered from the disease, the US intelligence community concluded in a classified report to the White House, according to three US officials.

The officials asked not to be identified because the report is secret and declined to detail its contents. But the thrust, they said, is that China’s public reporting on . . . .

Well there is a wall in China. And then there are statues of Buddha and
terracotta warriors and such.

China is a lovely land with many good people and quite excellent food. Just not
everything is lovely, not all the people are good and not all the food is fit for
consumption.

At the risk of sounding like a fortune cookie - peoples is peoples and places is places
but food ain't always food all the time.

The official count from China is 3,277 fatalities from 81,171 infections as of Tuesday, but the Epoch Times noted the troubling disappearance of some 21 million cell phone accounts in China over the past three months – an unprecedented decline that hints at more fatalities than Beijing is prepared to admit.

Semi-sarcastic alternate explanation: they've been lying about the number of cell-phone accounts, and are taking advantage of this opportunity to bring their claimed number closer to reality without anyone being able to be certain of why the apparent sudden drop.
