I started an EIRA, and my mother opened a 529 plan with herself as beneficiary. She is considering changing the beneficiary to my son. I know you can't make a contribution to both in the same year for the same person, but if the 529 Plan contribution was made while she was still listed as beneficiary would this be ok? She is using the NY 529 program, if that makes a difference. Thanks.
