What has everyone's experience with email responses from online banks been? Bank of America takes about 7 business days and the response is usually not even helpful. Commerce Online on the other hand got back to me within a day or so. Please share

BigBanker,
I can just agree w/you re. Bank of America. Their customer service is non-existant....guess they've gotten too big for their boots!
I've been banking with them for years but would seriously consider closing my accounts with them - have just been too lazy to get around to it. They're slow, inefficient and non-caring...
Just MHO,

FIBI, PCBanker, Lighthouse Bank, American Express respond usually within one day and replies are usually helpful.
A reply from NetBank may take from one day to several weeks. Very often NetBank sends just a confirmation that your message has been passed to a specialist or a general email with questions about your browser, encription module, etc. if you have a problem with their web interface (happens quite frequently). I also got impression that half of NetBank CS representatives do not know what they are doing and replies from them are useless as a result.
USABancshares has almost never replied to my emails beyond confirmation that they received my emails.

You're luky it was just 7 business days :) On couple occasions it was more like 10 to 12 for me. And one case was simply ignored.
I usually call other banks so can't say how fast/clow their email customer service is. Membership Banking (Amex) used to have 45 minutes hold time when they just started but lately everything is fine and no more than 5-10 minutes hold.

Before I was a customer I sent them an e-mail asking for information on getting the $25 rebate. They answered it the same day. I haven't tried contacting via e-mail since I signed up.

I think it was about a couple years ago that I used NetBank's web site to post a couple of questions. When the answer came back, it was clear they had done just a superficial reading of the first question and ignored the second.
Maybe that was a good thing--instead of having $45K deposited with them, I decided to not become a customer of theirs and isntead invested in the stock market.

I've also been happy with Netbank. 100% of my bills are paid online. They say to allow upto five days for payments to be sent. After setting the payment dates I reviewed the following bill statements and was able to cut the time to 2 days or less on most bills. I have a book of stamps bought in January that is still half full. I like that.
And one benefit is reduced interest because my bills are paid on the day after the statement date.

Big Banker,
That pretty much figures...Commerce (NJ) is head-and-shoulders over BofA in just about everything they do (perhaps one of the reasons why BofA hasn't staked-out new beachhead in the Northeast?).
As for e-mail, my online bank is FIBI, and I get a e-mail reply in 24 hours or less (unless on a weekend, of course). But then again, they (FIBI) are good enough where I don't have to e-mail them...and that's what this banking game is all about, isn't it?
For the record, BofA is SLOW on snail mail deposits. I mail a check to my daughter's account (to the mail-in center in Baltimore -- the nearest retail area to where I live), and it doesn't post for nearly a week!
On another subject, the latest from my neck of the woods is the final completion of the Fleet/Summit merger (so far, no major fiascos!), and before the honeymoon begins, Mellon Bank has announced they are selling their retail business to Citizens Bank (New England), making their #2 position against FleetBoston a little more stronger as they will be competing head-to-head in many of the same states.
More news as it breaks...

USAA - usually get an answer within a few hours, but sometimes takes one business day. Answers have always been helpful, except for one time when I asked a really obscure question, and for that one they asked me to either clarify my question in another email or call in to get an answer.
I am about to be a NetBank refugee; their customer service has been slow and not too great.
Bank of America - Military Bank has given me varying service in the past. I got a response to the first email I sent them in 2 weeks (!) but more recent emails have been answered within 3-4 days. I would dump them, as USAA is better in terms of offerings & service, except for the fact that they pay me $0.15 every time I use their debit card. So I ACH funds in, and use my BOA-MB account for small everyday purchases and rack in about $3-$4 a month on a very low balance.
ING - I've only emailed them once since I got my account, and had an appropriate answer within about a day.
