Even if it were a strike, the union members would not be expected to forego employment elsewhere. You can say lots of nice things about Iginla for not playing anywhere, but why the criticism for others who choose to pursue their careers elsewhere?

Here is the problem. What if your current employer was asking you to take a pay cut to $20 / hour; from your current $30 / hour and locked you out until you were ready to sign the deal. You are upset and say no-way; in the mean time you accept a job at $5 / hour at one of their competitors; and since this is a fixed sum game put some of their workers out of a job.

If those workers then come and work for your old company at $20 / hour will you call them "scabs"?

If you were willing to work for $5 / hour why not work for $20 at your current job? The company has told you it will go out of business at $30 and you have accepted that.
