Apple Co-Founder, Microsoft Exec Back Stock-Picking Web Site

Apple Inc. (AAPL) co-founder Mike Markkula and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) executive Mike McCue are backing an Internet start-up designed to let stock-market investors trade on the collective wisdom of its users.
Los Altos, Calif.-based Piqqem gathers estimates from users on whether a particular stock will trade higher or lower, and passes that information on to any participants that have opted into the service with their own picks.
The site, provided by Crowd Technologies Inc., touts itself as a centralized location for investor knowledge, with the potential to become more powerful as it pulls in more data.
"The total amount of time any one individual can devote to analyzing a stock is miniscule compared with the total brainpower of a large online community," the company says on its Web site.
Markkula was an original angel investor in Apple and helped co-found the company in 1977. He later served as its chief executive and then chairman, before departing in 1996 as Steve Jobs returned to eventually assume the chief executive role following an 11-year absence.
McCue founded TellMe Networks Inc., a provider of software for voice-activated services, in 1999. After Microsoft acquired TellMe in March of last year, McCue assumed the role of general manager with the subsidiary.
Other investors in Piqqem include former Navio Chief Executive Stefan Roever, and former eBay Inc. (EBAY) in-house counsel Brad Handler, the company said.
A company spokeswoman said Piqqem has been attracting users for the past two months, though she declined to say how many are currently using the service.
