Fidelity does have some excellent performing funds. And professional fund managers do well to match the performance of their peers in many cases. Hence to me an average rating is acceptable. It means they are doing what they are supposed to do.

But Fidelity has hundreds of funds. I don't expect all to be industry leaders, but those rated below average are a problem.

I think their image as a mutual fund company would be improved if they either learned to manage the underachievers better or got rid of them.

In the meanwhile, buyers of Fidelity Funds need to be careful to make sure they pick the better ones.
