I would very much appreciate it if someone knows the answer to my question and/or can point me in the right direction.

My ex has passed away, leaving our daughter as the sole heir of his estate. There is a large mortgage on the house, and factoring in his debts there is not really much of anything for her to inherit as far as that portion of the estate which would go through probate. (He had a small 401k, the money in which goes directly to her)

She will be notifying the mortgage company and the creditors that she does not intend to petition the court to administer the estate. My question is - is it her responsibility to file his last tax return?

Thanks for any insights.
