Has anyone here used a financial planner who specializes in college funding, filling our fafsa, css forms etc? My husband and I met with someone who gives some free information through our high school. We talked a few days later at their office and are considering it. I'm apprehensive about it. They claim that they can lower our efc by a large amount on the css form. The number started at 49k and they claimed they would be able to lower it to 25k. This seems not realistic to me...Do they advocate refinancing our mortgage? I'm not sure. Are these services on the up and up?

I don't feel like I need a lot of hand holding through the process, but my son has worked very hard and is looking to top level colleges. I don't want to hold him back or screw anything up for him.
