The (British) Maritima Accident Investigation Board has issued a preliminary report ( of its investigation of the fire aboard MV Star Princess, operated by the "Princess Cruises" unit of competitor Carnival Corporation (NYSE: CCL) and Carnival Plc. (LSE: CCL), registered in Bermuda. The report indicates that the cause of the fire remained undetermined, identifies several factors that contributed to the spread of the fire and to difficulties in fighting it, and makes several recommendations for corrective action. The report also has several good photos of the damaged area, so it is worth a look.

An annex to the report contains a safety bulletin issued by the Internatioanl Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) recommending specific preventative and corrective action. It's not clear to what extent this will affect the company's vessels.
