Someone here kept posting that all the charges against the January 6 insurrectionists were minor trespassing charges and no one -- not a single person -- was charged with conspiracy... so there was no conspiracy.

Umm.

Federal prosecutors filed a wide-ranging conspiracy indictment on Thursday accusing six California men said to be connected to a radical gun rights movement called the Three Percenters with plotting to assault the Capitol on Jan. 6, in the first charges lodged against anyone involved with planning any of the political events held the week of the attack.

Christopher Wray, the F.B.I. director, testified yesterday in front of a House committee that prosecutors were pursuing additional conspiracy charges against other rioters who stormed the Capitol.

Now, let's see charges against the Oath Keepers militia, the far-right nationalist group the Proud Boys, and others who helped foment the assault. <cough> Roger Stone </cough>

The last person charged with insurrection was in 1992. I didn't bother to look to see if they were convicted.

Conspiracy is not the same as insurrection.

Conspiracy charges look appropriate though.
