How much fruit do you eat a day? Do you measure it by the piece or carb count?

For us diabetics, are avocados classified as a fruit or protein?

Today I had a necterine with lunch; I was half expecting it to make my blood sugar go up. I was surprised when it didn't. Since being Dx I have a fear of adding fruit back into my diet. I had a kiwi with breakfast last week and there were no sugar repercussions. Am I being overly cautious?
