For what it's worth, even Microsoft is giving up on Edge. It is replacing Edge's internals with Chromium. See, for example:

As far as your particular issue with the current Microsoft Edge, are you using any extensions in Edge that may be different from what you have installed in Edge in the laptop? Or have some privacy settings set differently? Or configured for a different DNS Server?

Sometimes logon screens make use of JavaScript or third-party cookies, so settings related to those could also cause issues.
