Numerous states now have National Guard programs that promise a fully-funded four-year degree program for joining up. Given our economic crisis, a steady National Guard job and free college isn't a bad deal, although there is a time commitment.

Active duty military also has programs, not just the G.I. Bill. If one has already attended college and accumulated college loans, the "Loan Repayment Program" can pay off those loans upon entry into the U.S. military. The LRP is not always offered, so a Recruiter will know if certain specialties come with the LRP. This is good info to know for your family, relatives, and friends who may find themselves in a bind because of this economic crisis we're in.
