Just got a letter (actually, two letters < g>) from Medica about glucose meter test strips. Medica chose OneTouch and Roche brands as their preferred strips. If a patient orders either brand from a mail order business or pharmacy approved by Medica, the cost will be $0. That saves about $150/yr. Lancets are the usual cost for Part B--about $1.50 for a box of 100 (OneTouch), so not a big deal.Check with your insurer to see if they offer this as well. Brands might vary. This could also be an attempt by the meter makers to substantially lower the cost of using their strips and meters because the current push is to use a CGM--which does not use strips.
