You'd better believe it, baby!

Have read all the detailed and thoughtful posts about this issue. I think there is merit to
the Iceberg Theory in his work (Hemingway). Also, I do , reluctantly, have a favourite book: "A Farewell to Arms". There is a sparseness, a purity to his style that is unique and powerful. However, I can't get past the flawed female characters - over, and over, and over. 'Men are fine, and women aren't' - what rubbish.


As for the suggestion to read the Horatio Hornblower series by C.S. Forester. By all means, yes!. What fun. I would say read "Flying Colours" first - it's my favourite, anyways. The first one "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower" is pretty boring, Forester hasn't developed as a writer yet.

Have been very much enjoying the online Frost exhibit
at the University of Virginia, and look forward to more of him in our discussions.
