Funny to think about big tough cops being afraid of needles to the point of losing their jobs.

Like talking about race and religion, stereotyping police is a sport best avoided - especially in their presence. Regardless of country or rural/urban, it takes a certain personality type to veer towards taking a job where they can boss others around with impunity. (The same psychological profile also seems to be attracted to organized crime, so in some contexts it sometimes seems like the major difference between the cops and the crooks is that one wears a uniform and collects a paycheck directly from the government).

It also means that they resent being bossed around, especially when they feel that their power is being abridged in some fashion. Forcing them to take a vaccine, wear a mask, socially distance are all stepping into their "space" and many of them push back reflexively. They are strong, macho and weighing the implied risk of getting ill/dying (becoming weak) is not as important to them as accepting the implied backing down by being forced to be vaccinated. Showing this sort of "weakness" is also not in the nature of some right-wing politicians (but, interestingly, Putin, the poster boy of right wing strong men, adopted a well thought out pragmatic approach).
