I would like to know what everyone thinks about investing in a generic drug company. The generic industry is currently in an upheaval of sorts. Almost every week another generic drug increases in price from 100% up to as much as 2500%(not a typo!). Competition has driven down prices for so long that it is difficult to make money on generic drugs. Some companies have apparently decided to remedy this situation. If these price increases continue some companies margins and profits may increase substantially. There are also a number of top selling drugs whose patents will expire in the next year or so.
Two companies I have considered, although I have not done any extensive research, are KV Pharmaceuticals and one of the largest, Mylan Pharmaceuticals.
I would like to hear feedback from anyone with an opinion on this.
