Going down the ranks, the public-affairs software firm Quorum reckoned that the average age of the Democratic House leadership is 72, fully 24 years more than the average of the Republican House leadership.

There's a simple explanation. The GOP had their young far-right (tea party, "freedom caucus") takeover several years ago--remember all the older guys getting primaried (eg, Richard Lugar) or retiring under threat of same? The Democrats have barely begun a similar (but less extreme-) progressive "young turk" shift.

PS--Interesting you picked the House, where more Democrats are among the oldest, since 4 of the 5 oldest senators are R:

Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)
Don Young (R-AK)
Chuck Grassley (R-UT)
Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Pat Roberts (R-KS)
