Just a thought provoking thought...

Suppose you own a home and your brother and his family live with you and yours, and you share expenses.

Then you have a plumbing problem but your brother is a plumber.

But you have to pay him the going rate because he needs to get paid for his time just as you do when you go off to work. Asking him to do it for nothing is like him asking you not to go to work (and not get paid) so you can stay home to help him with his work.

Now this guy next door is also a plumber, and he has his 5 brothers aunts, uncles and a huge family living with him who all contribute to their house.

The guy next door has a brother who is a plumber, and he will fix your plumbing for a lot less.

Having just finished reading a book on the new global economics you are all fired up about getting things for the least cost, supposed most efficient. So you hire the guy next door to fix your plumbing.

Your brother is upset but you tell him, this is for our own good - cheaper is better. Soon the whole neighborhood is hiring this plumber next door and your brother has no work, and he cannot pay his share of the expenses in your house.

You tell him to get retrained in something else besides plumbing but he knows it will take him too long to get good enough at something else to be able to pay his upkeep. He and his family start to starve and get sick - no insurance, no money coming in, so you have to pay his way; house payment, food, doctors bills.

One day you calculate the savings on your plumbing job and compare it with how much you had to spend to keep your brother and his family alive and you find that your savings by "outsourcing" is a pittance compared to what you now have to spend on your brother and his family, even though he is frantically either trying to get work, and at the same time training himself to do something else, which will take at least 5 years or more.

The simple economic principle that people who favor outsourcing may be failing to understand is that if you comprimise your brother by giving his work to strangers, you will either lose your brother or lose yourself trying to help him.

For the last few years of this outsourcing frenzy, NAFTA, CAFTA, SHAFTA et al, this country has allowed corporations and themselves to beggar our own people, in exchange for cheap goods, increased retail sales, increased finance profits (when interest rates were low), and the profit of strangers, who have no ties to us, no allegiance to us, and certainly the head of many of their government seeks no friendship with us, and in fact looks forward to our collapse.

Greed is Good??

No it isn't.

It destroys.
