We have a 5-year-old Garmin that works fine (250?? 650? eh--the hubster's dealing with it). Last time we updated the data, we had to choose between eastern and western US because the old "disk" couldn't store all of the data now. That was easy as the last trip was entirely within the eastern US. THis time, the hubster added an 8 gig? chip and tried to download the Western half. nuh-uh. I'm not so patient as he is at working out problems, so I downloaded the Garmin app for iPad ($50 for USA, $60 to US plus Canada & Mexico).

I don't know about mounting a whole older iPad in the cab of a vehicle, but DH drives the RV and I navigate, so this should be fine. I'll let you know how it works out.

What do you guys use for GPS?
