You're bringing back some good memories. I started writing for the Fool back in October of 1995.

There's one point I'd like to address.

OK, so now the boards cost $$ to be able to read/post.

Even better, almost everything costs $$ to review.

The Fool board wasn't free in 1995 and 1996 either. If you may recall it was part of the AOL content and there was no "all-you-can-eat" plan. You paid your $2-3 an hour. AOL, in turn, would pay The Motley Fool a small piece of that. It wasn't until AOL went to the unlimited plans, pretty much killing the previous royalties paid for content, that TMF had little choice but to resort to advertising as well as the web migration to

The vast majority of our content is actually still free. Back in 1995 you were on AOL's clock. Yes, we've adapted to market demands by incorporating some popular premium research products but, when yout think about it, if you plan on spending ten hours or so on these discussion boards over the next year you will be spending less than you would have in the good ole days.
