Greetings!
As far as the cross stitch baby blanket - you hide the knots by not making them <g>... Seriously, starting threads are trapped under the stitches as you make the first few, and the tail is run under already done stitches of the same color. I have seen suggestions on using "Fray Check" on the starts and ends to make sure the thread stays put. I haven't tried the glue - just trapping the threads - and the shirts I cross stitched on have stayed stitched through many washings.
"Knot" an expert - just like cross-stitching!
