What is the annualized return?

It is the return over a period of a year which may be extrapolated if the given period is under a year while in the other case it is like a geometric root. So a few examples:

6 month return of 10%. Annualized return is 21%.
1 year return of 10%. Annualized return is 10%.
2 year return of 21%. Annualized return is 10%.
