>I tried. The whole family(including extended) basically would rip me apart if I had tried pressing charges/filing a police report. THey all said give her a second chance. I did give her one and now she owes me ~$5000 for the other stolen CC and from cashing my Tax refund checks. I love my whole family. It is just my mother that has a problem. I don't want to alienate everyone else from me by pressing charges against her.<

Perhaps the rest of the family would like to ante up all the money she stole from you, in lieu of you pressing charges. As for the IRS tax refund check, call IRS, tell them the check was stolen. There will be a bit of paperwork, then you'll get a replacement check. You haven't pressed charges, just reported a check stolen.

This is a nightmare of a situation. For someone so young, I'd say you are very much on the right track (house, cars, retirement plan, etc.). I hope my kids do this well! Best of lucking in resolving this!
