ScaryKid's paternal grandfather has lung cancer. From what they can tell me, using no words of a medical nature nor any longer than two syllables (you should've heard Grandma trying to pronounce "esophagus"), it sounds like it's Stage IIIb: T3-4, N3, M0. They'll biopsy the affected lymph nodes in his neck this weekend to determine type. He can't stand a lung biopsy, as he can't be anaesthetized, and anyway it might collapse the lung.

Nobody is surprised. The guy's been suffering from tobacco-related emphysema for about 10 years now IIRC. His breathing has worsened considerably in the last four to six months; he can't walk from the sofa to the bathroom unassisted. The mass obstructs the lower bronchia, and lung function on that side is down to about 10 percent due to the obstruction, so they tell me the doctor says.

Hubby the nurse thinks I'd better go this month.

Goddammit, I hate Florida.
