I hear Tom and Dave talking about direct investment in stocks rather than mutual funds or 401k's.

So should I stop my tax deferred contributions to my 403b (non-profit version of 401k) and invest that money directly into the market?

My funds are not performing well and I'm more than a little frustrated.
