Having worked close to that industry once-upon-a-time, I saw front-line 'producers' (now called 'advisors') put under tremendous pressure to 'produce', particularly the publicly traded brokerages and investment banks. Stress levels ran high. Incomes in that arena can be high...but so can the stress. As an anecdote....I used to on occasion have lunch with a young investment banker who would help put together financing packages for small private company mergers. One that he was a principal on blew of the companies pulled out after his employer had spent a not-insignificant amount on research and legal fees. My friend was extremely depressed. He got over it, but I'm not at all surprised to hear that some poor sole succumbed to their fit of depression by committing suicide. Its just sad when it happens.
