As we might have expected, the bailout bill contains lots of stuff having nothing to do with the bailout, including a tax package. Take a look at this feature:

an element of the tax package was legislation advanced by RI Rep. Patrick Kennedy that requires health-insurance companies to offer coverage of mental illness on a par with that of physical illness.

If this provision is part of the final package and your health-insurance company has to pay for this added stuff on a par with what it already pays for, your premiums are going to go up. Get ready. Oh, and more people will be without insurance as a result and the big bad Republicans will be blamed. I'll blame them too--for not getting this provision stripped out of the bill before they vote for it.
