I’m looking for a low APR card with EMV chip and pin to use when I’m in Europe. Currently, I have pretty good credit (between 725 and 750 last time I checked a little over a year ago) and I’d like to keep my score strong. If I apply for two cards, then take the one with that offers me the lower rate, and close the other account how will this affect my credit score? Is there a better way to go about this? I currently have a Chase Freedom that hovers around 11.99 variable.

Why do you need a low APR? Are you planning to accrue debt (meaning not pay the balance in full) while you're in Europe?

I believe PenFed has a chip and pin card. I have a Chase Sapphire with a chip but I'm not sure if it's pin or signature. Since you already have a Chase card, you may want to call and ask them about switching to Sapphire if it is, indeed, chip and pin.
