Here are the things I would look for in a mutual fund:

• Expense ratio under 1, under 0.5 even better.
• Turnover ratio under 50%; under 20% even better.
• Management tenure over 10 years; the longer the better.
• Solid 5 or 10 year performance history; demonstrated ability to perform in a variety of economic development conditions.
• Morningstar rating of 4 or 5.
