Here is my 2¢

Bond dividends and short term capital gains are both taxable at your income rate and are best in non-taxable accounts. However our options trading has the possibility of producing significant short term losses which cannot be used to offset gains if they trade in an IRA. So I think if you buy enough bonds to max out your IRA, that's where they belong.
