Hey thanks all for the great info. I had lost track of my own questio there - hence the slow reply.

So I am 38 and have got it all clear...for now :-)

I found out I can set up a brokerage link inside my 401k so now my choice is fine. I have a roth IRA for myself and wifey and a freetrade account for anything left over.

I will now just max out the 401k and the Roth while I have the income and move the money into the funds I like - great. When the job finishes I ill move it to a rollover IRA. I am planning to follow Paul Merriman's buy and hold portfolio.
