HI mark,

There are many places in the US with low rent
for decent apartments, and $40K per year
would be just dandy in those places.

Kari's BF is not doing that bad :

$40 - taxes (approx 25%) = $30K
$30 - rent (2400) = $27600 net after rent.

A lawyer in San Francisco (where rent is
$2000 for a small studio or 1 bedroom) making
$80K would have :

$80 - taxes (approx 30%) = $56K
$56K - rent ($24K year) = 32K net after rent

So Kari's approach to cutting costs vs. focusing
upon income is the Foolish thing to do.
Fool on Kari! and best wishes for your BF to
see the light!
