Hope this isn't redundant as I have not been able to keep up with this thread (nice, as recently as December or January we were lucky to get a couple posts a week here). But in regards to flash memory technology there are some new discontinuous technologies being developed and close to commercial capacity by the likes of Ramtron (RMTR).

If RMTR and a entire consortium with the likes of Samsung and all the big players involved get this stuff done right it will replace what Sandisk does. As an example, with FRAM (I believe I continually get this acronyms wrong) when your taking a digitial picture you can get continuous shooting without buffering, the memory chip is that quick. In addition it requires no electricity.

But just something to monitor. I'm sure Sandisk does, and they know what they are doing and where there product belongs.
