With spring break from grad school coming up, I was going to take a little break from all the dry reading I've been doing this semester to read something fun. Someone recommended the Horatio Hornblower series, but I understand there is some controversy with respect to where to start.

Some say start with "Beat to Quarters" which was actually the sixth book written, others say start with "Mr Midshipman Hornblower" which was actually the first chronologically.

Anyone out there who read it and any recommendations with respect to where to start?

(And I have read some Patrick O'Brian so no need to plug him instead ; )

Thanks for your time,
