How is your network within the organization? I work for a very large F500 company and few of the really great jobs are available unless you are within the network of the hiring managers you are going to. They can help to negotiate your release with your current group.

I've also found you need to be very straight about your intentions. Even though the move might be positive for you and the new group, it might have a very bad effect on the old group. This is ultimately looked on negatively within the overall organization, and you don't want to burn bridges you might regularly cross.
