Howdy Weltyt. Welcome to the board!

Anybody out there using Kamado Joe?

No Sir, not I. I use a Weber Grill and Weber Bullet Smoker.

I started learning how to grill foods on 'El Cheapo grills and a hole-in-the-ground.

I'm not so sure I could handle movin' onna them ceramic grill/smokers today 'cause I don't move like I used to.

So, I've stuck with "what I think I know." :-)

...tested major 'lump charcoal' on several criteria.

Umm, I've tried a coupla different lump charcoals, but the results were different and the costs higher than I expected.

I still stick with that ole Kingsford charcoal briquettes because it's "what I know" and because at least twice a year it goes on sale. ;-)

However, these days I'm looking into building my own burn-barrel and making my own hot coals from my abundant Oak tree supply and giving that a shot.

I dunno how well that'll work, but it may prove to be cheaper than "testing" various lump charcoals that I have to pay for just to find out if'n I likes one or another. And, I say that because every year we harvest our own oak wood for our wood stove, so... :-)
