Lessee...the US has a 12% poverty rate, as of 2017, so that explains about a third of the population that has no retirement assets.

There is probably a lot of overlap between the 10.6% of disabled working age people (18-64) and the poor as 65% of the working age disabled are not working.

Some 50% of married couples only have one member working full time, so the other spouse has no retirement savings. As roughly half the US population is married, that accounts for roughly 25% of the population having no retirement savings.

so....what is the mystery about some people having no retirement assets?
