However, I'd rather buy a bond than a bond fund...if you have $10000 or more it is worthwhile. The bond will pay the same until it matures or gets called; with falling rates, the monthly payouts of bond funds will gradually fall.

I agree and want to buy high grade corporate bond(s)as part of my asset allocation strategy. I'm planning these for my IRA to avoid taxes(for now).
Where can one find these and purchase them directly, or do I need to work through my broker?
