Here is a very inexpensive form of entertainment. It is an unusual library, with locations all over the world. If you like to read, you may enjoy checking out this website:

I discovered it by picking up a book in a coffee shop. I was having a cup of tea and chatting with a friend, and I noticed a small bookshelf with a sign above that said, "Free books!" So I took a look and found a book that looked promising and took it home.

The idea behind bookcrossing is that people "set their books free" by leaving them somewhere in public or giving them to a friend or stranger. You can leave them on the subway or in a doctor's office. There are also establishments, such as coffee shops, where the proprietor encourages people to leave or take bookcrossing books. It is good for business, because it draws people in.

To add a book to the library, you simply go to the website and get a number for the book. Write the number and website into the book and leave it somewhere or give it away. Later you can go back and check on the book to see where it is and who might have read it.

This is also a means of reading reviews of books. Sometimes people leave a review of the book they "borrowed."

One thing I think it would be perfect for is taking a long airline flight. I often want to take a book to read, but I hate having to haul it back. With a bookcrossing book, you don't have to bring it back. You can leave it in the terminal waiting area or give it to a departing passenger. That gives you one less thing to carry with you, and it makes it a little more interesting for the people watching the journey of their book.

Of course, on your return flight, if you can pick up another book, so much the better!
