The Hummer Is a Bummer

J.D. Power's annual quality survey of the auto industry included a twist this year -- the worst-performing brands. Trailing the pack: the 6,400-pound Hummer H2, made by General Motors (NYSE: GM).

Among other things, owners of the military-ish SUV complained of bad gas mileage, high headlights, excessive wind noise, poor steering-wheel placement, and a not-so-powerful engine. In all, owners reported 225 problems per 100 vehicles, compared to the industry average of 133. You'd expect better, considering the $50,000 price tag...
