If hydrogen fuel cells end up replacing the internal combustion engine as the preferred method for powering vehicles, it's possible historians will be able to point back to an event in Honeoye Falls on Tuesday as the day engineers proved the concept could work.

Two Chevrolet Sequel sport utility vehicles left Honeoye Falls, the site of General Motors Corp.'s fuel cell research center, at 7 a.m. Tuesday and traveled to Tarrytown, Westchester County, taking just over nine hours to complete the trip. It's the first time a fuel-cell powered vehicle, producing zero emissions, drove more than 300 miles on public roads without refueling.
