I always ask myself "The person who is trying to sell me this, is selling me this because THEY EXPECT TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF ME"

So yes, when money is involved motives must always be questioned, and numbers closely monitored. The outrageous fees attached to some annuities are no exaggeration.

If you're talking six-figure investments, you could buy a rental and pull in around 8-10% returns in rent, without ever losing a cent of principal. You could even hire someone to manage it for you. Annuities, you lose 100% of principal the day you die, from what I understand.

Just saying there might be other ways.
