I am 62 and right now my entire $250,000 is in a Fidelity US Government Money Market (FGRXX) fund while I decide what to do.
I appreciate all the advice as I am a relative novice in investing. All I did for my career at work was invest in my company 401k plan with was index funds. I did well in that and now have to decide how to use those savings in the best way to provide my wife and I income. I have no plans to leave anyone an estate, we just want income for now.
Maybe after the national economy recovers we can look at dividend stocks, but for now I can see how your recommendation of laddered treasuries may be our safest bet at this time.
