I checked the reservoir for windshield wiper fluid and it is virtually full. I am making the assumption that the same reservoir is used for both front and rear windshield wipers.

That might be a bad assumption. I have had cars with a separate reservoir for the rear washer.

Since you have your manual, take a look in it. In the maintenance section it should tell you where to fill the washer fluid.

If it really doesn't have a rear reservoir, then you'll have to hunt down the problem. That may not be very easy to do.
